Maria España, LCSW, CCTP

I was lucky to be born and raised in Houston, a city full of cultural diversity. I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies, focusing on Psychology and Sociology. After working for several years facilitating education groups with teens on topics focused on the prevention of relationship violence and sexual violence, I returned to school to pursue my Master’s in Social Work. I graduated from the University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work in 2022. During my Master’s program, I completed a one-year internship at Memorial Hermann Hospital. I worked with women, families, and crisis intervention in the ER. Most recently, I have been working in community health for approximately three years, providing therapeutic services in English and Spanish to individuals: children, teens, and adults, who present with a variety of symptoms, such as trauma, depression, anxiety, and much more.

When providing services, I use a client-centered approach focused on the individual within the environment and create a tailored treatment unique to each individual using various evidence-based treatment modalities. One of my areas of interest is youth. I am passionate about providing them a safe and friendly space to discuss their feelings and challenges, process life stressors, and build confidence and resilience. I also love working with Spanish-speaking clients, particularly those new to therapy. It is a privilege to work alongside clients and create an inclusive space for individuals to feel that their unique lived experiences and perspectives will be heard and respected.

My goal is always to create a space where you will feel welcomed and where we can build trust, gain insight into your situation, and develop practical tools to navigate challenges. Whether you are a young client, an adult, or a couple struggling, I want you to know you don’t have to navigate challenges alone. I look forward to working together on your learning, healing, and personal growth journey.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and friends and seeing live music. I also cherish my quiet time in my backyard tending to my vegetable garden.
